Palacc is now BPAG Accountants, Bungendore and the Canberra region

BPAG's Canberra region office is an accounting and tax practice at Shop 2, 28 Malbon Street, Bungendore, looking after small businesses, farms and families in Bungendore, Canberra and the surrounding areas. If you knew us as Palacc, nothing you rely on has changed: the same people and the same office. Call 1300 272 422 or the old number, (02) 6164 2008, or email mail@bpag.net.au. Because Bungendore is in NSW and many of our clients are in the ACT, we work with both sets of state taxes every week.

Your accountant The person you dealt with The same person

This office has always been strongest on small business and primary production: farms, graziers and rural enterprises where the tax year has to work around the season, not the other way round. That's still the case. What's new is that three more offices now stand behind the team you already deal with.

What changed when Palacc became BPAG?

Mergers usually mean clients get shuffled around. That is not what happened here. Here is the honest breakdown.

What has not changed What is new
The same person. The accountant who knows your business, your property and your family still answers when you ring. Specialists in-house. SMSF, business structuring, asset protection and fractional CFO work are handled within the firm.
The same phone number. (02) 6164 2008 still rings this office, and 1300 272 422 reaches every BPAG office. A team behind your file. Harvest, shearing or BAS season, someone off sick: your work doesn't stop because one person is away.
The same office. Shop 2, 28 Malbon Street, Bungendore. Easier paperwork. Questions by SMS or email, answered from your phone, which suits clients who are rarely at a desk.
Fixed pricing. You know the fee before we start. Cover across Australia. Offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide if you expand or move.

Who does the Canberra region office look after?

The Bungendore office looks after small businesses, farming families and individuals in Bungendore and surrounding areas, and across Canberra and the ACT. A lot of the work happens over email and video anyway, so being close by is a bonus rather than a requirement.

That cross-border mix is the point of difference. Bungendore is in New South Wales; Canberra is in the ACT. Plenty of our clients live in one and work, rent out property or employ staff in the other, so we deal with both revenue offices as a matter of routine.

Which services do Canberra region clients use most?

If you need What we do Read more
Farm tax that follows the season Farm management deposits, income averaging, livestock values and succession, planned before 30 June Accountants for farmers and primary producers
Books and BAS handled Xero bookkeeping, BAS prepared and checked, issues raised early Accounting and bookkeeping
Annual compliance done Tax returns, BAS, payroll and ASIC for companies, trusts and individuals Tax returns, BAS, payroll and ASIC
The farm or business handed on properly Succession and estate planning, working with your solicitor Succession and estate planning
NSW or ACT payroll tax, land tax or duty Registration, grouping, assessments and duty on purchases State taxes

Our farming tax agent drafts the working on farm management deposits, averaging and livestock, and your accountant checks it against your actual season before we advise you.

Live on one side of the border and employ or rent out property on the other? Ask us and we'll check which payroll tax and land tax rules reach you.

Which NSW and ACT taxes matter in the Canberra region?

The two systems work quite differently, which is why cross-border clients need someone who knows both. Figures below are as published by Revenue NSW and the ACT Revenue Office for 2026–27 (NSW land tax is for the 2026 land tax year).

Tax NSW (Bungendore side) ACT (Canberra side)
Payroll tax 5.45% above a $1,200,000 annual threshold From 1 July 2026, threshold $1,750,000; 6.75% for Australia-wide wages up to $20 million, higher tiers above that
Land tax On land held at midnight 31 December, above a $1,075,000 general threshold (2026); home excluded; land used for primary production can be exempt if it meets the tests No tax-free threshold. Applies to residential property that isn't your home, such as a rental: a fixed charge ($1,778 from 1 July 2026) plus a charge based on the land's value, assessed quarterly
Duty on purchases Transfer duty on a sliding scale; first home buyer exemption up to $800,000 Being gradually replaced by general rates. Commercial property: nil duty up to $2,100,000 from 1 July 2026. Home Buyer Concession Scheme has no income test or price cap from 1 July 2026

Payroll tax if you employ on both sides of the border

If you pay wages in both NSW and the ACT, each looks at your Australia-wide wages, and you get only a share of each threshold, based on the proportion of wages paid there. A business that feels comfortably under both thresholds can still need to register in one or both once wages are added together. Related businesses can also be grouped and share a threshold. Our payroll tax guide explains how the states compare.

Land tax on a Canberra rental

Unlike NSW, ACT land tax has no tax-free threshold. If you rent out a house or unit in Canberra, expect a quarterly land tax bill on top of rates, whatever its value. Foreign owners of residential land pay an extra surcharge.

Watch out: NSW land tax is worked out on what you own at midnight on 31 December; ACT land tax looks at each property's status on the first day of each quarter. If you're moving out of a Canberra home and renting it out, the timing matters.

Our ACT duty and land tax agent and NSW duty and land tax agent work through the detailed rules for a specific property or payroll question. Your accountant checks the result before we advise you.

How does working with BPAG in the Canberra region work day to day?

BPAG is an AI-native accounting firm: we work on one platform, Nagaris, where AI agents draft the routine work and a qualified accountant reviews and signs off everything. For rural and regional clients that matters in practical ways:

  • Answer from the paddock. Questions arrive by SMS or email; you reply from your phone and send a photo. No portal password.
  • Sign without driving in. Engagements and documents are signed on your phone, no account needed. One engagement covers the whole family group: companies, trusts, SMSF and individuals.
  • ID checks from home. Through your bank (ConnectID) or a photo ID and selfie.
  • Nothing lost. Calls and meetings are written up and filed, and the whole team can see your file.
  • Your data in Australia. Client data is stored on AWS Sydney servers, and every action is timestamped.

"I started using BPAG 3 years ago and they have been advising my business and myself in an extraordinary way. The team is also caring and they listen to what your needs are." — Christian Luis Barbeitos Alvarez, Google review

How do I contact or visit the Bungendore office?

You're welcome to come in. Call first on 1300 272 422 or (02) 6164 2008 so the right person is there when you arrive. If you're coming from Canberra, a phone or video call may save you the drive, and it works just as well for most things.

Frequently asked questions

Is Palacc still operating?

Palacc is now BPAG Accountants. The same team works from the same office at Shop 2, 28 Malbon Street, Bungendore, and (02) 6164 2008 still rings them, as does the national number 1300 272 422. Your work carries on as before.

Why did Palacc become part of BPAG Accountants?

Small firms hit a ceiling. There's only so much specialist work one office can do well, and only so much cover you can offer when someone is away. Five like-minded firms joined forces to form BPAG, which puts SMSF, structuring and CFO specialists behind the Bungendore team, along with better systems, without changing who you talk to.

My business is in Canberra. Is an office in Bungendore a problem?

Not in our experience. Most of our work happens over email, phone and video, and the team works with ACT businesses and ACT taxes all the time. If you'd like to meet in person, ring first and we'll arrange it.

Do you work with farms outside the Bungendore area?

Yes. We work with clients Australia-wide. Primary production has always been a strength of this office, and BPAG's other offices also look after farming clients, so you'll be dealing with people who understand how the season affects the tax year.

What does BPAG charge in the Canberra region?

The same fixed packages as every office: Compliance Essentials from $149 a week, Business Insights from $249 and Fractional CFO from $499 (all plus GST). We agree the fee before we start.
