| Your accountant | The person you dealt with | The same person |
The Melbourne team has long worked with family businesses, trades, construction, retail and importers across the northern suburbs, the sort of work where knowing the owner matters as much as knowing the numbers. That hasn't changed. What has changed is that five like-minded firms with shared values and complementary skills joined forces as BPAG, so three more offices now stand behind them.
What changed when CP Partners became BPAG?
Mergers usually mean clients get shuffled around. That is not what happened here. Here is the honest breakdown.
| What has not changed | What is new |
|---|---|
| The same person. The accountant who knows your business and your family still answers when you ring. | A new address. The Epping office has closed. The team is now at Level 1, 19 Janefield Drive, Bundoora. |
| The same phone number. (03) 9408 6555 still works, and 1300 272 422 reaches every BPAG office. | Specialists in-house. SMSF, business structuring, asset protection and fractional CFO work are handled within the firm. |
| The same way of working. Plain English, issues raised early, fixed pricing. | A team behind your file. Work doesn't stop because one person is on leave during BAS season. |
| Your records. Your history and files came with the team. | Easier paperwork. Questions by SMS or email, answered from your phone; documents signed without creating an account. |

Who does the Melbourne office look after?
The Bundoora office looks after clients in Bundoora, Epping, Mill Park, South Morang, Reservoir, Preston, Thomastown, Greensborough, Craigieburn and greater Melbourne. A lot of the work happens over email and video anyway, so being close by is a bonus rather than a requirement.
Most clients here are family-owned businesses: builders and trades, retailers, wholesalers and importers, often with a company, a family trust and an investment property or two. If that's your business, our pages for tradies and construction businesses and importers and wholesalers cover the issues we see most.
Which services do Melbourne clients use most?
Everything you had with CP Partners, plus the work you used to go elsewhere for.
| If you need | What we do | Read more |

Which Victorian taxes should Melbourne businesses watch?
Victoria has more state taxes than most, and several have changed in the last few years. These are the ones that come up most in the north, with figures as published by the State Revenue Office (SRO) Victoria.
Payroll tax
From 1 July 2025 the Victorian payroll tax threshold is $1,000,000 a year, and the general rate is 4.85% (SRO payroll tax current rates). Victoria works differently from NSW in two ways:
- The deduction phases out. For businesses with Australian wages between $3 million and $5 million the tax-free amount reduces, and above $5 million there's none.
- Extra surcharges for larger employers. A combined 1% surcharge applies to the Victorian share of wages where national payroll is above $10 million, and 2% above $100 million.
Regional Victorian employers pay a much lower rate, so where your staff are based matters. Related businesses can be grouped and share one threshold, which catches out families running two or three companies. Our payroll tax guide compares the states.
Land tax
Victoria's land tax now starts low. For the 2024 to 2033 land tax years, land tax applies to total taxable landholdings of $50,000 or more (your home is generally exempt), with a flat $500 between $50,000 and $100,000 and $975 from $100,000 to under $300,000, before percentage rates start (SRO land tax current rates). It's assessed on what you own at midnight on 31 December. In practice, almost anyone with an investment property in Victoria now gets a land tax bill. Trusts pay on a separate scale with a lower threshold.
Duty and the other property taxes
- Land transfer duty applies on a sliding scale; for a non-home purchase, property between $960,000 and $2,000,000 pays 5.5% of the whole value (SRO land transfer duty). First home buyers pay no duty up to $600,000, with a concession to $750,000.
- Commercial and industrial property tax. Commercial and industrial property bought under arrangements from 1 July 2024 enters a new system: duty is paid on that entry transaction, then after a 10-year transition the property moves to an annual tax of 1% of site value, and later sales generally no longer attract duty while it keeps a qualifying use. If you're buying a factory or warehouse, this changes the numbers.
- Windfall gains tax can apply when land is rezoned and its value rises. If you own land on Melbourne's growth fringe, check the SRO windfall gains tax rules before a rezoning, not after.
Watch out: Moving a property between family entities in Victoria is usually a dutiable transaction, and transfers into or out of trusts carry their own land tax rules. Get the duty, land tax and CGT costed together before you act.
Our Victorian duty and land tax agent works through the duty, land tax, surcharges, windfall gains tax and payroll tax rules for a specific transaction. Your accountant then checks it against your facts before we advise you.
How does working with BPAG Melbourne work day to day?
BPAG is an AI-native accounting firm: all our work runs on one platform, Nagaris, where AI agents draft the routine work and a qualified accountant reviews and signs off everything. For a busy business owner in the north, the parts you'll notice are:
- No portal password. Questions come by text or email; you answer on your phone and send a photo of the invoice.
- One signature for the family group. One engagement covers your companies, trusts, SMSF and personal returns, signed once on your phone.
- ID checks from home. Through your bank (ConnectID) or a photo ID and selfie.
- BAS you can trust. Workpapers are drafted and checked, with every figure traced to the transactions behind it.
- Your data in Australia. Client data is stored on AWS Sydney servers, and every action is timestamped.
"It's been wonderful working with the BPAG team! They are true experts and have provided incredibly valuable business advisory and tax services, helping my business grow." — Mitchell King, Google review
